The Good Fight.

I had the pleasure of meeting Indiana State Representative Carey Hamilton of District 87 on April 16 for Young Professionals Break the Supermajority. This event was created by organizers Reyn Croghan and Keenan Evans, lifelong Hoosiers and friends I was happy to support. They made this fundraiser to help raise awareness for midterm elections in November and make sure Hoosiers understand the full potential of this critically impactful opportunity. I’m not a political expert in any way, I’m not paid to write this, I offered to photograph the evening to celebrate two brilliant North Central High School friends but I found hope and light along the way.

This was about good people fighting the good fight. In the Democratic Caucus Chair, Rep. Hamilton, I met a mother and true light standing up in the midst of a battle we’ve never experienced before. This is a woman who speaks with joy, tenacity, and strength when their adversaries are defunding education, privatizing resources, and stealing. I’m not any kind of political science enthusiast, sometimes the truth is simple. This is really right versus wrong and we have a representative doing the work so many of us wouldn’t. Her voice represents possibility in a time where that feels like the medicine our nation needs. I’m not even a resident of her district, I’m just someone who was moved in my heart to share the light when I can. My hope is that you’ll find ways to do the same and engage in the community you are part of.

Thank you to the gracious Representative Hamilton for being so energizing and making the time. In the words of Reyn Croghan, organizer, “to all the kids, teachers, educators, parents out there: good people are working every day to try to make things better for you.” She’s a former teacher who decided to get involved as a way to help children and educators get the resources they need. Keenan has been working on fundraisers and campaigns doing over a hundred events using his talents to highlight those who are fighting the good fight.

You can get involved by reaching out to the organizers, finding your local representative, donating, registering to vote, and volunteering with Young Democrats of Indiana. This is an opportunity to share the light when we need it most.

Thank you to Xavier and The Garage for hosting a beautiful night.
